87-01-45.1 Control of Wide Area Networks

چکیده
Local area networks (LANs) have become commonplace in most medium and large companies. Now, wide area networks (WANs) have become the next communications frontier. However, WANs are much more complicated than LANs. In most WAN environments, the more devices an individual has to manage, the more time-consuming is the process of monitoring those devices. Complexity also increases very rapidly due to the fact that each new device on the network invariably has to interface with many existing devices. In order to get a further understanding of WANs, it is useful to explore the differences between WANs and LANs. LANs are defined as communications networks in which all components are located within several miles of each other and communicate using high transmission speeds, generally 1M-bps or higher. They are typically used to support interconnection within a building or campus environment. WANs connect system users who are geographically dispersed and connected by means of public telecommunications facilities. WANs provide system users with access to computers for fast interchange of information. Major components of WANs include CPUs, ranging from microcomputers to mainframes, intelligent terminals, modems, and communications controllers. WANs cover distances of about 30 miles, and often connect a group of campuses. WANs are usually static in nature. Changes to them require rerouting telephone lines and installing modems. LANs on the other hand can be quickly reconfigured; communications lines are set up and rerouted more easily and gateways to host computers can be quickly added.

Load-Frequency Control: a GA based Bayesian Networks Multi-agent System
Bayesian Networks (BN) provides a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty. They have been successfully applied in a variety of real-world tasks but they have received little attention in the area of load-frequency control (LFC). In practice, LFC systems use proportional-integral controllers. However since these controllers are designed using a linear model, the nonlinearities...
متن کاملDelay-Scheduled Controllers for Inter-Area Oscillations Considering Time Delays
Unlike the existing views that was introduced the existence of delay caused by the transmission of wide area measurement system data (WAMS) into the controllers input of the power oscilation damping (POD) by communication networks as a reason for poor performance of the POD controllers. This paper shows that the presence of time delay in the feedback loop may improve the performance of a POD co...

Nowadays wireless networks are becoming important in personal and public communication andgrowing very rapidly. Similarly, Software Dened Network (SDN) is an emerging approach to over-come challenges of traditional networks. In this paper, a new SDN-based framework is proposedto ne-grained control of 802.11 Wireless LANs. This work describes the benets of programmableAcc...
متن کاملPerformance Improvement of Expanded Integrated Local Area Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
In Local Area Networks (LAN) connected together by bridges, flow control and smooth traffic in the network is very important. However, congestion at bridges can cause intensive loss of received frames. In addition, the received frames are thrown away and have to be retransmitted by the source station, which causes more congestion and massive reduction in the overall network throughput. The netw...
متن کاملChallenges Facing Global Health Networks: The NCD Alliance Experience; Comment on “Four Challenges that Global Health Networks Face”
Successful prevention and control of the epidemic of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) cannot be achieved by the health sector alone: a wide range of organisations from multiple sectors and across government must also be involved. This requires a new, inclusive approach to advocacy and to coordinating, convening and catalysing action across civil society, best achieved by a broad-based network. T...
